Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.

Pray in hope for my family, relatives, and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ, who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom
where all our tears are wiped away.

Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

My Friend & Brother Danny,

It doesn't seem long ago we were playing Pop Warner football at Grant Rae Park in Montebello.  It was a simple life back then, however bonds were made with Manuel Castanon, Ray Galarze, your brother Bobby and I.  We carried that bond into Garfield High until yesterday when we said good-bye.  You will be missed but not forgotten. We did mourn your passing yesterday, however, we did rejoice because we know you are in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  It has been a pleasure sharing life with you and I look forward to seeing you again. Good-bye my friend & brother.

Ruben

From Ralph Carmona on March 17th, 2014
Image Danny  & Bobby lived across the street from me for a short while and we used to play street baseball and football. Suddenly they both disappeared and popped up at Garfield. We never was close; but then I was never close to the crowd of athletes and scholars.  I am clueless on what Danny and his brother, Bobby, did with their life. But I do remember admiring the guy when we were in elementary.  I think he introduced me to the technique of polishing your tennis shoes black. So big a deal at that time in life and he had back then a confidence that I lacked. What happened, and why, since then to now, is in the uncertainty of life.

Mooney,
Dear, Dear, Dear, Friend Mooney.  How you kept me laughing  all through "History " period.  You were the reason why I looked forward to that  class.  Everyday was always different as you entertained me with your comical ways.  I was again heartbroken to see your photograph in the "Memories" Tab.  No, No, not Mooney. I do remember our last conversation, and our last meeting. I am happy to say it was at a dance hall, and you stood by me and did not leave my side until the end of the event.Even though I was with my date, you bless me with your presence, and not knowing it would be "OUR" last. Here in my heart you shall live forever.  May we see each other again Mooney in our Eternal Life with God's Will and Blessings.  I shall include you in my daily prayers, and keep your memory always in my heart.  Love you my Dear, Dear, Friend....Mooney......

Sweet. sweet, sweet, Steve, Remembering you as always standing between the three and main four hundred building at Garfield during break times at with Robert Amaya. Every time I needed to pass through those two buildings, I just needed to stop and talk with my two best gentlemen friends. So quiet were you, as I still remember and hear your little giggle here and there. I was blessed to have had you for my friend. You and Robert were wonderful and I am honored to have been called your friend. You were kind and so gentle to all, sweet and precious you were always. Gentle friend Steve, you will forever have a special place in my memory and my heart. God Bless Sweet Steve. My prayers will always be....for Sweet Steve....

I so loved Steve. He was always happy and never seemened to have a bad word about anyone. He hung out with Robert Amaya and I so had a crush on him. Steve would always just sign and tell me I'd meet someone someday that would value me.

My thoughts are with the family. I want to let you know that Steve was such a kind and wonderful soul and I am sorry to see this he is not here to share it with us any longer.

We grew up together, living on Kern Ave, one house away from each other. Together we went from kindergarten to graduation at Garfield High School.  We played sports out in the streets, fought together, and at times with each other. We could always be found hanging out with each other, laughing and having a great time. And that was all that mattered.  Robert Delgado and I were with you during your last days with us and we were there at your Memorial service. When the guys and I hang out there isn't a time that we don't mention your name and laugh at all the great times we had together. You were more than a friend, you were like a brother to me as well as for the other guys. Thank you for always being a friend and like a brother. We miss you!

Oh, I specially miss your "Fabulous "Margaritas" at all our get togethers, when you were there my glass was never empty and you were right on the mark those frozen treats were simply "Fabulous".

I can't say it any better than what was written in our 1969 Yearboo regarding Kiki:

"Who was Enrique Martinez? What did he do? The answer to these questions can be found in the students here at school.
"Kiki" was Garfield.  He was the epitome of what a Garfieldian should be.  In him we saw the life, the zest, and the desires towards self-improvement.  Whether in school or out, he showed the community that words of praise can still be said of a Garfield student.
We will not talk of how he died, for we wish to remember him as he was: warm-hearted, and unselfish toward all. He truly symbolized Garfield."

You are surley missed my friend!

When Abel was about 11 or 12 yeas old he made a decision that he wanted to be a priest. He loved the lord very much.  Like most God fearing people he really wanted to do the right thing and serve God.He was an Alter Boy at our Lady of Victory chuch on Union Pacific Ave. Father Garcia recommended him to attend a seminary to become a priest. Well he lasted about 3 weeks as he was home sick and cried everyday.  I dont blame him, I too would have cried at this age amongst strangers.
We hung out together at recess and lunch.  Kind of a jock group from Eastman, Stevenson, Garfield.  Lots of woofing (old slang for making fun of each other) and Abel was reserved and always in deep thought, sort of semi private person.. Our group consisted of  Paul Gallegos, Art Quintana,My brother Fernando, Abel and his brother Joe, Ray Godoy, Felix Robles, Angel Lujan, Richard 'Lizard' Martinez (KIA Vietnam) the Late Art Jaramillo. Miss the Old days.
Abel played quarterback when we played at that famous field at Jackson High School when a brawl ended the game that Abel and I were probably responsible for.  The game was forfieted as we were winning by a a score of 54-7.  My cousin was on Jackson's team and too remembers.

My Tina

We were so lucky to find eachother in this world and
'"the girls" are not complete without you..You remain in every conversation and will be in our hearts forever. I remember your last conversation with me and your advise on being a mom and wife  "choose your battles because in the end, so little matters".  I look forward to seeing you again my Tina.

I was truly sadden when I heard Jerry has left us... I was so looking forward to see him at "The Hop".. And when I saw him at the last Reunion.. I had asked him, " You still singing.?" He had said "No".  I had told him, "Awww man. You sing great. Especially back when we were in high school. And I started to sing: "I'm a Girl Watcher"  And he just smiled... And I gave him a real big hug... He looked real good.  Well, The Lord has him now.. and I am sure he is rocking up there too...

Good Memories,
Virginia

Jerry, I don't think I will ever forget our "coming out" day and singing with you and Julie. The showman that you are, you just had to do your own thing and got a scolding from Mr. Gist! Hey, what could he do, you were already on stage - he just glared at you from the wings!  I won't ever be able to listen to "I'm  a Girl Watcher" and not smile - remembering you.....
May our Lord bring many moments of laughter and joy to your family and friends while reminiscing your life.

Jerry, running into you on the dance floor at our last reunion will forever be a lasting special memory for me.  It was great to see you smiling and joking around like old times, still playing the part of "I'm a girl watcher". May God Bless and Watch Over You and Your Family, Always Julie

Image It was the second grade. I was the dirtiest, most poorly dressed, kid in the class.  But I was nuts about that gorgeous girl in my class - Gloria. One day, my brother and I hid under a car to see her come and go at her home.  I wanted him to know about this beautiful girl in my class that I was crazy about. My brother Bob, 11 months younger than me, died a couple of years ago. When I saw Gloria at our 40th reunion I told her the story. God speed, Gloria. There was a time when you played a HUGE role in my little, lonely, child life.

From Julie Kelly (Abelar) on May 26th, 2014
Gloria, I could not believe it, when I read that you had passed.  You looked so beautiful at our last reunion, smiling with those rosy cheeks of yours.  You had not changed a bit from our school years. I rememberd how sweet and kind and soft spoken you were, always. I have known you since Elementary school.  I love you and will miss you, girl.  May God Bless you and your family, always.

From Irene Ortega on May 8th, 2015

It has taken me some time to come to grips with the lost of a beautiful person inside & out.  Your smile was very warm and contagious who never had anything bad to say about others. You were a breath of fresh air that lit up a room when you walked in.  You will always be a special person to me for the times we spent together. May you rest in peace and I know heaven is a better place now that you entered eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ. Good-bye Kahuna and I know the waves in heaven are magnificent and the sunsets breathless.

"Little Ester" we called  you. A tiny, beautiful, spunky, sassy little bit of heaven with a smile that could capture you and make you happy too. I remember the Belvedere days fondly. I know we did not see each other for years and years and I am sure much transpired between those years but I remember you fondly and I hope those who loved you are in peace and remembering your life with a smile too.

We will always keep your memory in our hearts Joe. The ski trips to Tahoe and Mammoth made for great memories.  Catching up with you and sharing stories of our children were priceless.  Your sons are awesome, and we are so proud of the father you became! You left the party too early. Until we meet again our friend.  God Bless You. Love you, Elaine and Rich Durazo

Hilma was my sister-in-law who left us too soon. She raised two wonderful daughters, Crista and Melissa. I was priviledged to join her in the union of the Avila and Torres families. She was a saint, and is now in paradise with all the other kind souls who walked this earth.

When we talked, he gave  his full attention and respect. I can not remember him being otherwise. I was truely deeply sadden to hear of his passing.  I am so honored that I and James were Friends, starting from our Griffith years.
James, I will alway have a special place for you in my heart, as that is the place you made from your kindness. You will always be remembered in my prayers. God Bless Friend James.
